Generate complete DCS, PLC, and SIS I/O lists directly from P&ID instrument data: signal types, ranges, engineering units, alarm set points, trip set points, loop assignments, and safety classification derived automatically. The only tool globally that produces configuration-ready I/O lists from PDF or scanned P&IDs, including C&E matrix cross-referencing and SIL classification. Works for any control system: Yokogawa Centum, Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV, Siemens PCS7, ABB 800xA, Rockwell PlantPAx.
In short
Pathnovo's I/O List Generation reads project P&IDs and instrument index data and produces complete DCS, PLC, and SIS I/O lists in 48 hours per process unit (40 P&IDs, 200 loops, 600 to 1,200 I/O points typical) at 99.5% contractual accuracy. Signal classification covers analog input (AI 4-20mA, HART, 0-10V), analog output (AO 4-20mA, HART), digital input (DI dry contact, 24V DC, 120V AC), digital output (DO relay, solenoid), pulse, and fieldbus (Foundation Fieldbus H1, Profibus PA / DP, Modbus RTU / TCP, Ethernet/IP, HART multi-drop, WirelessHART). Range, engineering units, alarm and trip set points (HH / H / L / LL) derived from P&ID notations, process specs, and C&E matrix. SIS loops tagged with SIL classification (SIL 1-4 per IEC 61511) and BPCS-SIS independence verified. Output in controller-native format: Yokogawa Centum VP / CS3000, Honeywell Experion PKS / TPS, Emerson DeltaV / Ovation, Siemens PCS7 / Simatic, ABB 800xA, Rockwell PlantPAx, Schneider EcoStruxure, GE Mark VIe, HIMA HIMax, Triconex, plus blue-ocean C&E matrix cross-reference no other vendor automates. The only extraction-based I/O list generator (Hexagon SPI and AVEVA Instrumentation require their own authored databases).
Analog input (AI 4–20mA, HART, 0–10V), analog output (AO 4–20mA, HART), digital input (DI dry contact, 24V DC, 120V AC), digital output (DO relay, solenoid), pulse, and fieldbus (Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus PA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP) signals classified from instrument symbology and P&ID notation.
Calibrated range, engineering units, and unit-of-measure extracted from P&ID annotations and cross-referenced with instrument datasheets. Scaling factors and engineering units reconciled to ensure DCS configuration consistency.
High-high, high, low, low-low alarm set points plus trip set points derived from P&ID notations, process design specifications, and C&E matrix. SIS trip loops classified per the safety functional specification.
Each I/O point assigned to the appropriate controller: DCS for regulatory control, PLC for packaged equipment, SIS for safety-instrumented functions. Loop-level grouping with controller cabinet / marshalling cabinet allocation.
Every SIS I/O point cross-referenced against the cause-and-effect matrix to validate trip function coverage. Missing C&E entries, orphaned trip loops, and tag mismatches flagged for I&C engineer review. See the hazop safety intelligence page for the C&E verification workflow.
Safety-instrumented functions tagged with SIL level (SIL 1–4) from the SIS specification. Independence verified between BPCS and SIS loops. IEC 61511 compliance checks applied.
I/O list exported in controller-specific format: Yokogawa Centum engineering database, Honeywell Experion PKS configuration files, Emerson DeltaV FHX import, Siemens PCS7 IEA, ABB 800xA. Custom formats configured per project.
I/O changes tracked across P&ID revisions: new signals, removed signals, modified ranges, reassigned loops. Downstream DCS configuration impact surfaced automatically. Integrates with /solutions/procurement-intelligence/pid-revision-po-impact for full delta analysis.

Yes. Every SIS I/O point is cross-referenced against the cause-and-effect matrix to validate trip function coverage. Orphaned C&E entries, missing I/O tags, and unmapped trip loops are flagged. This is a blue-ocean workflow; no other vendor offers automated C&E-vs-P&ID-vs-I/O-list verification. See the HAZOP safety intelligence workflow for the full C&E pipeline.
Hexagon SPI and AVEVA Instrumentation generate I/O lists from their own authored instrumentation databases, tools only usable when the instrumentation model was authored in SPI or AVEVA. For brownfield plants, revamps, and the majority of Indian / Gulf mid-EPC projects where instrumentation is designed on PDF P&IDs, those authoring-tool workflows do not apply. Pathnovo is the only extraction-based I/O list generator.
Yes. SIL 1 through SIL 4 classification per IEC 61511 is extracted from the SIS specification and applied to each SIS I/O point. BPCS-SIS independence is verified automatically. The output is IEC 61511 compliant for safety audit submission.
A typical process unit (40 P&IDs, 200 loops, 600-1,200 I/O points) is returned as a complete I/O list within 48 hours. Large projects (500+ P&IDs, 10,000+ I/O) are delivered in 1-2 weeks with dedicated capacity.
Yes. I/O points are grouped by controller cabinet, marshalling cabinet, and junction box per the project's I/O assignment philosophy. Cable schedules, marshalling cabinet sizing, and field wiring tabulations are derived from the I/O list and exported in formats compatible with EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, and Bentley OpenPlant. Pre-commissioning loop sheets and field verification checklists generated from the same source data.
I/O list generation is included on every paid tier and consumes the same credit pool as other extraction workflows (a complex P&ID = 20 credits per side). A typical 40 P&ID process unit returning 600-1,200 I/O points fits comfortably inside Starter (1,000 credits/month) or Professional (5,000 credits/month). Greenfield refinery scopes with 500+ P&IDs and 10,000+ I/O move to Scale (25,000+ credits). Scoped paid pilot on the Starter tier validates the workflow on a real unit before scale-up. See our pricing page for full plan details.
