Extract tag numbers, instrument data, line numbers, and equipment specs from P&IDs directly into structured Excel spreadsheets. Automated, accurate, and ready for procurement.
In short
Pathnovo's P&ID to Excel converts scanned paper P&IDs, CAD PDFs, and DWG files into structured Excel workbooks with separate sheets for tags, lines, equipment, instruments, and control valves under a 48-hour SLA per sheet set at 99.5% contractual field-level accuracy with a remedy clause. Extracted fields cover tag numbers, instrument types, line numbers with PMS reference and material spec, pipe sizes, design pressures, design temperatures, operating conditions, equipment IDs with service description, control valve data (Cv, fail position, actuator type), safety valve data (set pressure, orifice, capacity), and SIL classification 1-4 per IEC 61511, with every field validated against the applicable material specification and code. Maps to your existing client-specific Excel template with column headers, naming conventions, and multi-sheet structures preserved (EPC contractor template libraries for L&T, Tata Projects, Worley, Technip Energies, Bechtel pre-configured at no extra fee). Output is designed for direct load into SAP PM functional location / equipment master, IBM Maximo asset registers, AVEVA NET / AIM, or Hexagon SmartPlant. Reference benchmark: 600 P&IDs / 10,247 tags processed for McDermott with zero QA rejections at handover. Volumes of 50,000+ tags per workbook routinely delivered.
Clean, structured spreadsheets with separate sheets for tags, lines, equipment, and instruments. Ready for procurement and handover.
Map extracted data to your existing Excel templates. Match column headers, naming conventions, and formatting requirements.
Process hundreds of P&IDs at once. Consolidated output across entire drawing sets with cross-sheet reconciliation.
See exactly what was extracted vs the source drawing. Visual diff for QA review.
Generate instrument index spreadsheets from P&ID sets
Create tag registers in client-specified Excel formats
Export equipment lists for procurement RFQ packages
Build line lists with specification data for piping teams
Yes. Pathnovo maps extracted P&ID data to your existing Excel templates: client-specific column headers, formatting, naming conventions, tag prefix conventions, and multi-sheet structures all preserved. EPC contractor template libraries (L&T, Tata Projects, Worley, Technip Energies, Bechtel) pre-configured. Custom templates configured at project kickoff at no additional fee.
No practical limit. Reference benchmark: 600 P&IDs with 10,247 tags processed for McDermott with zero QA rejections at handover. Typical large EPC project: 5,000-20,000 P&IDs with consolidated cross-drawing reconciliation. Excel output volumes of 50,000+ tags per workbook with separate sheets by discipline routinely delivered.
Tag numbers, instrument types, line numbers, pipe sizes, material specs (PMS reference), design pressures, design temperatures, operating conditions, equipment IDs with service description, control valve data (Cv, fail position, actuator type), safety valve data (set pressure, orifice, capacity), safety classifications (SIL 1-4 per IEC 61511), loop assignments, and P&ID sheet references. Every field validated against the applicable material specification and code.
Yes. The Excel output is designed for direct load into SAP PM functional location / equipment master, IBM Maximo asset / location registers, AVEVA NET / AIM, or Hexagon SmartPlant. See the engineering handover workflow and the SAP PM integration detail.
99.5% contractual field-level accuracy SLA with penalty clause. Independent audit trail per sheet with bounding-box evidence linking every extracted field to its source P&ID region. Accuracy validated on sample review before full project release.
Yes. The extraction pipeline accepts scanned paper P&IDs (any DPI), photographed drawings from mobile cameras, CAD PDFs, native DWG / DXF exports, and intelligent P&IDs from Hexagon SmartPlant, AVEVA, Bentley OpenPlant, and Siemens COMOS. No pre-processing required. Reference benchmark: McDermott engagement processed 600 mixed-vintage P&IDs (scanned and CAD-authored) with zero QA rejections at handover.
Output format does not change pricing. The credit consumed per P&ID (typically 20 credits for a complex sheet) is identical whether you take the Excel, JSON, CFIHOS 2.0, or DEXPI deliverable. Most clients receive Excel for procurement workflow and JSON for downstream system loading from the same extraction. A scoped paid pilot on the Starter tier (1,000 credits per month) covers around 50 complex P&ID sheets for validation. See our pricing page for full plan details.
Hexagon SmartPlant P&ID generates Excel reports from its own authored database; the workflow only applies when the P&ID was originally drawn in SmartPlant. For brownfield drawings, revamp projects, and mid-EPC P&IDs that were never authored in SmartPlant, that workflow does not apply. Pathnovo extracts directly from any P&ID format and produces Excel that matches your existing template, with no authoring-tool dependency. The two are complementary: SmartPlant for greenfield authoring, Pathnovo for everything else.
Pathnovo uses vision models trained on ISA 5.1 conventions to read P&ID drawings and extract tag numbers, instrument loops, line numbers, and equipment specs into structured Excel columns. The process handles scanned paper P&IDs, CAD PDFs, and DWG files; no pre-processing required. Output is formatted to match your existing template with separate sheets for instruments, lines, equipment, and control valves. Training corpus spans 200,000+ engineering drawings across five decades of P&ID conventions, ensuring robustness on legacy hand-drawn drawings alongside modern intelligent P&IDs.
