Bentley OpenPlant is built for projects authored end-to-end inside the Bentley ecosystem. For brownfield plants, revamps, and the majority of Indian / Gulf mid-EPC projects where designs live in PDF form, OpenPlant's authoring workflow does not apply. Pathnovo extracts engineering data from any P&ID, isometric, or datasheet format (scanned, PDF, legacy CAD), without ecosystem lock-in. Feeds Bentley iTwin cleanly when iTwin is the downstream platform, works standalone otherwise.
Works on Any Drawing Format
OpenPlant is authoring-native: designs are drawn inside the tool. Pathnovo reads any drawing format: scanned PDFs from the 1980s, AutoCAD legacy DWGs, third-party CAD exports, hand-annotated drawings. No authoring tool dependency.
No Instrumentation Module Gap

Is Bentley OpenPlant the same as AVEVA or Hexagon SmartPlant?
Similar category (plant engineering authoring suite), different ecosystem. Bentley OpenPlant is native to the Bentley iTwin / ProjectWise ecosystem and integrates with Bentley's broader infrastructure portfolio (roads, rail, utilities). AVEVA and Hexagon each have their own authoring-tool ecosystems. For brownfield plants and mid-EPC projects outside any of these ecosystems, Pathnovo is the extraction engine that works standalone.
