AVEVA AIM Alternative: Extract from Any Source, Feed AIM

AVEVA AIM is a powerful aggregation and contextualisation platform when its data inputs are already structured. It is not an extraction tool: AIM cannot read PDFs, scanned drawings, HAZOP study PDFs, mill certificates, or third-party authored P&IDs. For greenfield AVEVA-authored projects, AIM is a capable information backbone. For brownfield plants, mid-EPC projects without full AVEVA tooling, owner-operator multi-vendor histories, and any project where 30 years of legacy documents live in PDF form, AIM needs an upstream extraction engine. Pathnovo is that engine: extract from any source (any authoring tool, any format, any era), emit CFIHOS 2.0 + ISO 15926-compliant structured data, feed AIM cleanly with no remapping. Per Excel S2: complementary, not substitutable.

01

Extraction, Not Just Aggregation

AVEVA AIM aggregates structured data from AVEVA-authored tools and CFIHOS-aligned sources. Pathnovo extracts from PDFs, scanned drawings, hand-drawn legacy isometrics, and third-party authored documents in the first place. For brownfield plants and non-AVEVA environments, Pathnovo is the upstream layer AIM depends on.

02

Works Without AVEVA E3D / Diagrams / Instrumentation

AIM is optimised for AVEVA-authored data. Pathnovo works standalone: no AVEVA licence required, no AVEVA-authored drawings required. Output is CFIHOS 2.0 + ISO 15926 native so it feeds AIM cleanly when AIM is the downstream platform.

03

Multi-Vendor Realities

Most owner-operators have plants authored in multiple tools: AVEVA at some sites, Hexagon SmartPlant at others, Bentley OpenPlant at others, legacy AutoCAD elsewhere. AIM cannot extract from non-AVEVA sources. Pathnovo extracts uniformly across all of them and feeds AIM with a consolidated dataset, the only path to a unified asset register without manual re-authoring.

04

Faster Time to First AIM Population

AVEVA AIM implementations typically take 18-36 months to populate, with most of that time spent on data ingestion. Pathnovo collapses the ingestion phase to 12-20 weeks for a brownfield refinery and 8-12 weeks for greenfield EPC handover. Same AIM platform, faster time to value.

05

Indian + Gulf Regulatory Layer Built-In

AVEVA AIM has no native IBR, OISD 118, PESO, or CCOE support. Pathnovo encodes all four regimes as first-class compliance workflows alongside AIM data extraction. The same extraction project produces the AIM register AND the four Indian regulatory views. See /compliance/indian-epc-compliance-bundle.

06

Mid-EPC Accessible Pricing

AVEVA Connect enterprise subscriptions typically run $500K+/year with multi-month deployment. Pathnovo is credit-based, full platform included on every paid tier from ₹40,000/$1,200 per month (Starter), with a free 14-day trial. Indian and Gulf mid-EPC contractors ($50M-$500M projects) cannot absorb AVEVA's enterprise commercial model; Pathnovo fits their budget natively while still feeding AIM downstream when AIM is the chosen platform.

07

Free 14-Day Trial Before AIM Commitment

Before committing to a multi-year AVEVA AIM programme, run Pathnovo's free 14-day trial (100 credits) on a sample of legacy plant documents. See exactly what extracted CFIHOS data comes out in 48 hours. Use that to validate the AIM business case before signing the AVEVA Connect contract.

08

Live with McDermott (10,247 Tags)

Pathnovo's flagship engagement: 10,247 tags extracted across 600 P&IDs at 99.5% measured accuracy. McDermott-scale extraction is the proof point that the AIM ingestion phase can compress from years to weeks when paired with the right extraction engine. See /solutions/tag-document-register.

Does AVEVA AIM extract data from PDFs or scanned drawings?

No. AIM aggregates structured data already sitting in AVEVA-authored tools (E3D, Diagrams, P&ID, Engineering, Instrumentation) and CFIHOS-aligned external sources. For PDFs and scanned drawings, an upstream extraction step is required. Pathnovo fills that upstream role: extract from PDFs, emit CFIHOS 2.0 + ISO 15926-compliant structured data, feed AIM directly. Pathnovo + AIM is a stronger combination than AIM alone for any client with brownfield, multi-vendor, or non-AVEVA-authored content.

Is AVEVA AIM the same as AVEVA NET?

Closely related. AVEVA NET is AVEVA's older information management product (legacy on-premise deployments). AVEVA AIM is the modern successor within the AVEVA Connect cloud platform with deeper integration to AVEVA E3D, Diagrams, Engineering, and Instrumentation. Both aggregate structured asset data. Neither extracts from unstructured documents. Pathnovo works with both: output format configurable for either NET or AIM ingestion. See /alternatives/aveva-net for the legacy NET-specific comparison.

Can I use Pathnovo and AVEVA AIM together?

Yes, this is the recommended architecture for any client running AIM as the enterprise asset information backbone with mixed-vendor or brownfield content. Pathnovo extracts engineering data from legacy PDFs, scanned drawings, third-party authored P&IDs, and HAZOP study PDFs; AVEVA AIM aggregates that structured CFIHOS-native output alongside AVEVA-authored data and operational data; clients query and visualise across the whole. This is the standard integration pattern for brownfield AVEVA-AIM deployments. See /integrations/aveva-connect (when published) for the technical pattern.

Who buys AVEVA AIM vs Pathnovo?

AVEVA AIM suits large owner-operators with multi-year information management programmes and existing AVEVA ecosystem investment (Wood, SCG Chemicals, PETRONAS, Vulcan Energy scale, plus tier-1 NOCs and IOCs). Pathnovo suits EPC contractors and mid-size operators who need engineering deliverables (instrument index, isometric MTO, HAZOP register, mill cert traceability, compliance registers) with 48-hour turnaround and mid-EPC pricing. They serve different primary buyers but coexist on the same project frequently: large owner-operator buys AIM, EPC contractor uses Pathnovo to populate AIM during handover.

Is CFIHOS 2.0 output supported?

Yes. Pathnovo's extraction output is CFIHOS 2.0 native: object classes, attributes, and relationships match the CFIHOS data model. ISO 15926 RDF is also supported as an alternative semantic format. Data feeds into AVEVA AIM, Cognite Data Fusion, Bentley iTwin, Hexagon HxGN SDx2, and any CFIHOS-compliant platform without a middle translation layer. See /standards/cfihos (when published) for the standard explainer.

How long does AVEVA AIM take to deploy without Pathnovo?

Industry-standard AVEVA AIM implementations run 18-36 months for a brownfield owner-operator with significant legacy document volume. Most of that time is the data ingestion phase: scoping which documents to digitise, building extraction tooling or hiring KPO teams, validating output, mapping to CFIHOS, populating AIM. With Pathnovo as the extraction layer, the ingestion phase compresses to 12-20 weeks for brownfield and 8-12 weeks for greenfield EPC handover. AIM platform configuration and operational integration phases run in parallel.

What does AVEVA AIM cost?

AVEVA Connect subscription pricing is enterprise-tier and not publicly published. Industry analyst reports indicate ~$500K+ annual subscription for typical mid-tier deployments, scaling significantly for tier-1 owner-operators with multi-asset portfolios. Implementation services on top typically run $1M-$5M for a full brownfield AIM rollout. Pathnovo's credit-based pricing (Starter from ₹40,000/$1,200 per month, full platform included) and Enterprise tier (₹2.5 cr–₹15 cr+ / $750K–$5M+ per year on 3-year contracts) make it accessible at mid-EPC scale, often as a complement to (not replacement of) the AIM subscription.

Can Pathnovo replace AVEVA AIM entirely?

No. AIM provides storage, visualisation, query, and operational data integration that Pathnovo does not aim to replace. Pathnovo's role is upstream extraction. For some mid-EPC clients without operational integration needs, Pathnovo's CFIHOS-native output delivered into a custom data platform (or directly into SAP PM, Maximo, or a basic database) can be sufficient without AIM. For tier-1 owner-operators with operational data integration, predictive maintenance, and digital twin requirements, AIM remains the platform; Pathnovo accelerates getting it populated.

Pathnovo + AVEVA AIM joint deployment pattern?

Three steps. (1) Discovery: identify document scope (P&IDs, isometrics, datasheets, HAZOP studies, mill certs, vendor data books) across the asset portfolio. (2) Pathnovo extraction: run extraction engagements per asset / per phase, output delivered in CFIHOS 2.0 native format. (3) AVEVA AIM ingestion: structured CFIHOS data ingested into AVEVA Connect / AIM via standard data feeds, alongside AVEVA-authored data and operational data. The combined platform delivers the full asset model. See /integrations/aveva-connect for the technical pattern (page when published).

What about AVEVA's named customers like Wood, SCG Chemicals, PETRONAS?

AVEVA AIM's enterprise customer base includes Wood, SCG Chemicals, Vulcan Energy, PETRONAS, and tier-1 owner-operators on multi-year information management programmes. Pathnovo's customer profile is McDermott (live engagement: 10,247 tags / 600 P&IDs / 99.5% measured accuracy), GCKC and Zetwerk (in build), plus Indian PSU + Gulf NOC pipeline. Both customer footprints are real; AVEVA's is enterprise-tier, Pathnovo's spans tier-1 EPC down to mid-EPC. Many AVEVA AIM deployments at owner-operator scale benefit from Pathnovo's extraction layer to populate AIM with brownfield + multi-vendor content.
