In short
A pressure vessel datasheet is the one-document-per-tag specification for a vessel built to ASME Section VIII Div 1 or Div 2. It captures process design data, mechanical design pressure and temperature (with MDMT), shell and head materials, corrosion allowance, joint efficiency, radiography per UW-11, PWHT, nozzle schedule, internals, and statutory scope (IBR, PESO). Get the Excel template, or Pathnovo auto-fills it from your process data in 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pressure vessel datasheet?
A pressure vessel datasheet is the one-document-per-tag specification for a pressure vessel (drum, separator, reactor, distillation column, knock-out drum, surge vessel). It captures process design data (fluid, operating pressure and temperature, composition), mechanical design data (design pressure including internal and external, design temperature and MDMT, code per ASME Section VIII Div 1 or Div 2, materials of shell and heads, corrosion allowance, joint efficiency, radiography per UW-11, PWHT per UCS-56), nozzle schedule with reinforcement, internals, and statutory scope (IBR for boiler-side, PESO for hydrocarbon vessels). It is the document vendors fabricate against and inspectors witness against.
What columns are required in a pressure vessel datasheet template?
Required columns: vessel tag, service, P&ID reference, orientation, vessel type, process fluid and composition, operating pressure and temperature with min and max cases, specific gravity, mechanical design pressure (internal, external or full vacuum if applicable), design temperature with MDMT and MAWT, code (ASME Section VIII Div 1 or Div 2), code stamp (U / UM / R), shell material, head material and type, corrosion allowance, joint efficiency E, radiography per UW-11, PWHT requirement, insulation, nozzle schedule with reinforcement, manhole, internals, IBR and PESO scope, NDE plan. The template covers all required columns.
How does Pathnovo auto-fill the pressure vessel datasheet?
Pathnovo, an engineering document intelligence platform, populates the pressure vessel datasheet by extracting process design data from the equipment list and PFD, cross-referencing the line list and piping material spec for nozzle sizes, ratings, and materials, and deriving mechanical design conditions per the project basis of design (design pressure typically 110% of operating or operating plus 25 psi, design temperature per maximum operating plus margin per ASME Section VIII UG-20). Output is configurable to the EPC datasheet format. See the datasheet extraction workflow.
When does ASME Section VIII Div 1 apply versus Div 2?
ASME Section VIII Div 1 (Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels) applies to most refinery and petrochemical pressure vessels. It uses higher safety factor (3.5 on tensile, applied to allowable stress per Section II Part D), permits less rigorous design analysis, and is cheaper to fabricate. Div 2 (Alternative Rules) applies to higher-pressure, fatigue-critical, or thick-wall vessels (typical threshold around 200 bar). It uses lower safety factor (2.4 on tensile), requires more rigorous design analysis (FEA per Part 5), and higher-grade NDE (typically full radiography). The datasheet Code column drives fabrication and inspection scope. See the ASME Section VIII reference.
What is IBR and PESO scope for pressure vessels?
IBR (Indian Boiler Regulations) governs steam-side and boiler-side equipment in India: steam drums, blowdown drums, deaerators, water heaters above 22.75 litre and 0 bar gauge, all steam piping above 22.75 litre. IBR vessels need IBR Form III construction certificate from a licensed IBR fabricator, IBR Inspector witness, and Chief Boiler Inspector approval. PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation) governs hydrocarbon and LPG storage and pressure equipment in India: LPG bullets, propane vessels, ammonia storage, certain process vessels in licensed petroleum installations. PESO requires PESO-approved fabricator, PESO inspector witness, and PESO certificate. See the IBR compliance workflow and the PESO compliance workflow.
How is the pressure vessel datasheet different from the equipment datasheet?
The generic equipment datasheet is one consolidated format covering pumps, vessels, and exchangers in a single layout. The pressure vessel datasheet is a discipline-specific format with deeper coverage of vessel-specific design parameters (head type, joint efficiency, radiography per UW-11, PWHT per UCS-56, nozzle reinforcement). EPC contractors typically maintain both: a consolidated equipment datasheet for the equipment list register and discipline-specific datasheets for vendor RFQ. The pressure vessel datasheet template provides the discipline-specific deep format. See the equipment datasheet template.
How does the pressure vessel datasheet feed downstream procurement?
Downstream consumers: the datasheet drives the Material Requisition (MR) for the pressure vessel package, the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) per ASME Section VIII Div 1 or Div 2 inspection requirements, the Vendor Document Requirements (VDR) for mill test certificates, fabrication drawings, U-1A or U-1B form, and hydrostatic test certificate. During TBE the vendor offered MAWP, MDMT, weight, and price are evaluated against the EPC datasheet. After PO, the vendor datasheet is certified and drives fabrication and inspection. See the material requisition template and the vendor datasheet compliance workflow.
