IBR 1950 is the Indian statutory regulation governing design, manufacture, construction, erection, operation, inspection, and repair of boilers and pressure vessels. Compliance is mandatory for any installation containing steam at pressure above 1 bar with capacity > 25 litres. The regulation is administered by state Directorates of Steam Boilers under the Chief Inspector of Boilers. Every IBR-scoped item must carry valid Form III (manufacturer's certificate) and Form IV (user's register) documentation, must be inspected periodically (typically annually for internal inspection, biennially for hydrotest), and must be renewed before certificate expiry.

A typical Indian PSU refinery has 30–50 years of handwritten Form IV log books, scanned Chief Inspector correspondence, typed reports, Excel registers maintained by successive plant engineers, and vendor MTRs in varying formats. Tightly. Every IBR-scoped pressure part is linked to the specific mill certificate that certifies its material. Pathnovo extracts mill certificate data (see /solutions/procurement-intelligence/mill-certificate), cross-checks chemistry and mechanical properties against the IBR-approved material list, validates the mill's own IBR-certification (mills supplying IBR material must be IBR-certified themselves), and flags any deviation. The two workflows run as one integrated compliance engine.

Steam boilers above 1 bar / 25 L, economisers, superheaters, steam piping at IBR thresholds, steam drums, mud drums, boiler feed water piping, safety valves on IBR equipment, and any pressure-containing ancillary item per IBR classification tables. Indian oil refineries, petrochemical plants, fertiliser plants, power stations, and process industries routinely carry 500–5,000 IBR-scoped items per complex.
